Liverpool 'ready to pay' £30m to get deal done for PL star

Liverpool are reportedly in talks to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi before the end of the transfer window.

The Reds have conceded four goals in the Premier League this season already, and Arne Slot needs another quality centre-back to fix the leaky defence.

Guehi is arguably one of the most highly-rated centre-backs in the Premier League, but he has entered the final year of his deal at Selhurst Park, and therefore, he could be allowed to leave the club.

The Eagles have set a £40m asking price for the England international, but Liverpool are unwilling to pay over the odds due to his contract situation.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are in talks to reach an agreement with Palace, and they are ready to spend over £30m for the former Chelsea defender.

While Palace would loathe to lose a player of his calibre for free, it remains to be seen whether they would accept Liverpool's proposal.

The Eagles first need to sign a replacement, and if they decide to let him go, Guehi should be able to complete his move to Merseyside, as he has already said yes to the Anfield project.

Liverpool have spent over £300m this summer on eight signings already, but they still need another centre-back and a top striker before the end of the window.

Meeting personal terms with Guehi should not be a problem, but at the moment, the decision hinges solely on Palace.

It has been reported that Palace have submitted a bid for Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji in the past few days.

The 30-year-old has fallen out of favour under Pep Guardiola, and could be offloaded, with Galatasaray being linked with a move.

While Akanji wants to stay at the Etihad Stadium and fight for his place, he could be tempted to move to Selhurst Park in the closing stages of the window in search of regular games.
