Fabrizio Romano has provided his latest Marc Guehi update ahead of the transfer window deadline on Monday.
With Guehi’s contract at Crystal Palace expiring next summer, Liverpool believe they have a unique chance to secure the Chelsea academy graduate for a fee below market value.
After some of the defensive issues on display in the opening two Premier League games, many fans feel that another defender signing is arguably more important than Alexander Isak.
Palace chairman Steve Parish acknowledging the club’s precarious position.
Speaking after Palace’s Conference League qualifier against Fredrikstad, Parish admitted: “Players leaving on a free is not ideal. We will have to look at it over the next 11 days”.
The Eagles risk losing their star defender for nothing next summer if no agreement is reached before Monday’s deadline.
In March of this year, DaveOCKOP.com exclusively revealed that the Anfield club had been in touch with the representatives of Marc Guehi.
Now taking to X, Romano has revealed that Liverpool is ready to pay in excess of £30m for the Crystal Palace skipper:
“Understand Liverpool remain in active talks to sign Marc Guehi immediately,” Romano wrote.
“LFC are ready to pay over £30m now to get the deal done… but it depends on Crystal Palace.”
“If Palace find replacement and let him go, Guehi already said yes to the Reds.”
Marc Guehi was a key figure for England during their run to the Euro 2024 final last summer and remains determined to secure his spot in the squad for the 2026 World Cup in the United States.
There is an added advantage for Liverpool in signing Guehi due to his homegrown status, which helps the club meet the Premier League’s squad registration rules.
However, negotiations with Crystal Palace are complicated by a 20% sell-on clause that Chelsea inserted when Guehi made his £18 million move from Stamford Bridge to Selhurst Park in 2021.
