Liverpool has made a decision on Stefan Bajcetic and his future.
The 20-year-old joined Liverpool from Celta Vigo in February 2021 and made his senior debut as a 17-year-old substitute in the memorable 9-0 win over Bournemouth.
What began as a brief appearance quickly turned into a breakthrough, as Jurgen Klopp recognized Bajcetic’s outstanding talent.
By the end of that season, he had featured 19 times across all competitions, scored his first senior goal in a 3-1 win at Aston Villa, and cemented his place as a regular starter in Liverpool’s midfield.
But his promising trajectory was interrupted in March 2023 when he suffered an adductor injury, which marked the start of a series of setbacks.
After recovering, he endured a calf injury early in the 2023-24 season, followed by back problems that were diagnosed as growing pains.
The youngster then embarked on a loan to Red Bull Salzburg for the 2024-25 season, but after manager Pepijn Lijnders was dismissed in December, his playing time reduced significantly
He made 19 appearances for Salzburg but started only eight matches, prompting Liverpool to end the loan prematurely.
His move to Las Palmas in January 2025 proved more positive.
Bajcetic started 12 La Liga games, clocked 969 minutes, and impressed with his midfield performances despite Las Palmas’ relegation struggles.
There has been plenty of rumours that the Spaniard was being primed for another loan move.
However, the ever-reliable Paul Joyce has reported that Bajectic is expected to stay put at Anfield and build on his loan spell at Las Palmas from last season.
He will work with Arne Slot and his staff, with no loan move planned:
“Stefan Bajcetic set to stay at Liverpool and work with Arne Slot and coaching staff on continued development,” the Times journalist wrote on X.
“Tyler Morton’s move to Lyon, and with James McConnell set to join Ajax on loan, means Liverpool want Bajcetic to remain at club and build on his performances while on loan at Las Palmas last season.”
“He also counts on homegrown list for UEFA competition.”
