Whilst Alexander Isak has been the big focus around Liverpool, there is still the unresolved future of Marc Guehi presenting further questions before the transfer window closes. Time is running out to sign the central defender, though that could come with a benefit.
Arne Slot's Reds have conceded six goals across their three competitive matches in the 2025/26 campaign so far. Luckily for them this has not stunted their Premier League progress with two wins from two, but it is a problem the head coach might want rectifying sooner rather than later.
Guehi has started the season strongly with Palace and could join Liverpool before next Monday's deadline if a deal can be agreed. If not, the hope would be to sign him for free when his contract at Selhurst Park expires next summer.
So, the ECHO rounds up the latest on the England international ahead of an anxious final few days of the transfer window.
Guehi talks
Liverpool are ready to bid more than £30m to sign Guehi before this summer transfer window closes, claims Fabrizio Romano. Talks remain active going into the final days of business.
The Reds' plan was always to land Giovanni Leoni and Guehi, whether the latter were to arrive in 2025 or 2026.
In theory, it all depends on Palace. Oliver Glasner needs a replacement before they consider accepting any offer, plus they will need to come to terms with accepting a lesser fee than first hoped because the player is out of contract next year.
Guehi has reportedly already said yes to the proposed Anfield switch.
Konate hint
'Alarm bells are ringing' because of a French central defender who is out of contract next year, though interestingly it is not Ibrahima Konate.
German publication BILD reports interest from Real Madrid in Dayot Upamecano. He is Konate's French national squad teammate and has a deal expiring with Bayern Munich in less than 12 months' time.
Spanish media have persistently linked Los Blancos with making an attempt to sign Konate on a free transfer in 2026 but here it is explained that should he renew terms with the Reds, the focus would switch to signing Upamecano for free as a back up plan.
It marks the first hint of Real looking elsewhere in the event Konate snubs them to stay at Liverpool.
