West Ham are in talks with Bayer Leverkusen to sign midfielder Aleix Garcia before the transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Hammers have had a shocking start to the season after suffering heavy defeats at the hands of Sunderland and Chelsea, before crashing out of the Carabao Cup in the second round to Wolves.
Manager Graham Potter has come under increasing pressure as a result but the board are still backing him in the transfer market, and midfield is an area that is believed to be a priority to bolster before the September 1st deadline.
West Ham 'In Talks' for Aleix Garcia
Aleix Garcia
Garcia, who has been described as 'outstanding' by Xabi Alonso, has been a regular for the Bundesliga side since joining for Girona, but it's unclear where he stands in the pecking order under new manager Erik Ten Hag.
The Hammers are desperate to add to their squad, and according to Sky Sports, there is a concrete interest in the 28-year-old ahead of the deadline on Monday.
Talks have been held between the clubs about a deal, and figures have been discussed verbally, although there has been no formal offer yet. Leverkusen value Garcia at around €20m (£17.2m), but would be open to a sale.
West Ham have already signed El Hadji Malick Diouf, Kyle Walker-Peters, Callum Wilson and Mads Hermansen so far this summer for Potter, but midfield has been a priority for much of the window.
The Irons have had bids rejected for Southampton star Mateus Fernandes, and are closing in on a deal to sign Soungoutou Magassa, while an offer has been made for Nottingham Forest star Ibrahim Sangare - with a six-year deal also agreed with the player.
But now a move for Garcia could add some technical quality there too, to go alongside James Ward-Prowse, Tomas Soucek and youngster Freddie Potts, while Guido Rodriguez is still at the club too despite some reports he could be on the move.
