Tottenham plot massive transfer statement as they enter race to sign 22yo Chelsea target

**Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a stunning transfer hijack of their own as they enter the race to sign RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons.**

According to [BILD](https://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/rb-leipzig-chelsea-spur-erkaltet-tottenham-interesse-an-xavi-simons-68aea69f8c33b226bcae9250#fromWall), Tottenham are serious contenders to rival Chelsea in the race to land Simons’ signature and they’ve already opened talks to make it happen.

Simons still has two years left to run on his contract with Leipzig but he has made it clear that he wants to take on a new adventure this summer.

Leipzig wouldn’t stand in his way and the Premier League seems like his most likely destination.

However, Leipzig are holding out for a significant fee. With Chelsea and Tottenham now keen on Simons, the Bundesliga side will hope for a bidding war.

Leipzig are already preparing for life without Simons and are lining up a move for Liverpool talent Harvey Elliott as a like for like replacement.

Until now, Simons seemed Chelsea-bound. Reports claim he has turned down several suitors and is patiently waiting for the Blues to make their move.

The Blues cannot proceed with a transfer until they’ve offloaded some of their unwanted stars.

At the moment, they’re working on moving Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku but they’re struggling to get interested clubs to match their asking price.

Chelsea also seem to be turning their attention to Barcelona’s Fermiin Lopez, which will further encourage Tottenham’s hopes of hijacking their move for Simons.

Tottenham are desperate to sign a new number 10 before the transfer window closes after losing James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski to injury.

They’ve suffered a few setbacks with Morgan Gibbs-White penning a new deal with Nottingham Forest while [Arsenal hijacked their deal to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace](https://whiteheartlane.com/who-should-tottenham-sign-after-missing-out-on-eberechi-eze/).

Any deal for Simons will cost around £60 million but if they can beat Chelsea to the punch, it’ll be a massive statement of intent from Tottenham.

Simons wants a move to the Premier League and has hired agent Ali Barat to make it happen.
