Dolphins’ price tag for Matthew Judon revealed, and it’s complicated (report)

How much will the Miami Dolphins be paying Matthew Judon to go after the quarterback this year? It’s a complicated issue.

According to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, Judon is heading to Miami on an incentive-laden deal that includes a number of clauses that could bump his pay up to $6 million.

According to Wolfe, Judon will earn a base salary of $1.5 million along with a $500,000 roster bonus. He will also receive a total of $1 million in in-game bonuses (about $58,000 per game).

The former New England Patriots star also has $500,000 in incentives if he hits 59% playing time, 65% playing time, seven sacks, 10 sacks, a Pro Bowl and plays 65% of snaps for a playoff team/top-20 defense.

Those are a lot of incentive clauses. But for a player like Judon, it’s not too surprising. After a disappointing season in 2024 with the Atlanta Falcons, Judon’s stock has dropped.

Clearly, the Dolphins were in need of some depth in their pass rush – but didn’t want to overpay. With this sort of deal, both sides win. If Judon has a monster season, he gets a higher payday. If he doesn’t pan out, the Dolphins don’t lose too much money.
