ALLEN PARK -- It’s already been a busy day for the Detroit Lions.
They traded veteran wide receiver Tim Patrick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 2026 sixth-round pick, and signed safety Daniel Thomas to boost their special teams depth.
The Lions still have three open spots on their main roster, and now must turn their attention to filling out the practice squad. We’ll track all of the practice squad signings in this updating post as they roll in.
NFL teams can have 16 players on their practice squads -- 17 if one of those players comes via the international pathway program. Six of those players can be veterans players, while the other 10 must have no more than two vested seasons under their belt.
[12:40 p.m.] Tom Kennedy is undeniable at this point. The veteran wide receiver is back for another run on the practice squad, per the Detroit Free Press. Kennedy tweeted out a photo of Castle Black from HBO’s “Game of Thrones” fame, signaling that his watch is not yet over for the Lions.
Kennedy has been with the Lions since 2019, splitting his time between the practice squad and main roster, going back and forth more than a couple of times. He has the trust of the coaching staff, knows the scheme and his teammates, and is a dependable option if the Lions need help on special teams or at receiver. The one-time lacrosse star has 14 catches for 195 yards, with one 75-yard touchdown pass under his belt across 24 regular-season games played during his time in Detroit.
The Lions are also expected to add interior offensive lineman Trystan Colon to their practice squad. Colon has been dealing with an elbow injury in recent weeks, which hurt his chances of making the roster. Colon has experience between guard and center, starting seven games for the Arizona Cardinals last season. -- Ben Raven
