Newcastle United may accept the prospect of selling Alexander Isak to Liverpool if they sign just one striker this summer, Reds transfer expert David Lynch has claimed.
Arne Slot's side beat Newcastle 3-2 at St James' Park on Monday, with the Toon lining using Anthony Gordon as their centre-forward.
The club have already lost Callum Wilson this summer, and Isak's refusal to reintegrate has left boss Eddie Howe short of options.
Despite numerous reports suggesting Newcastle want two strikers, Lynch would not be surprised if they agree to sell Isak after signing just one, telling Sports Mole: "I would not rule out the possibility that they just sign Strand Larsen and let Isak go.
"Newcastle could be in a position now where they think that if they get a striker over the line, that makes things easier for them, and they may not want any more trouble with Isak, they might not want to bother rehabilitating him.
"It's definitely on the table that they sign just one player in Strand Larsen and sell Isak regardless because that would be an acknowledgement of the fact that the Isak situation is completely untenable."
Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen has been subject of two official approaches from Newcastle, and any third offer could take the transfer fee close to £60m.

Will Liverpool sign Isak before the transfer deadline?
The transfer window is set to close on September 1, and with so little time left before the closure of the summer market, there are fears that Liverpool could miss out on Isak.
Wolves would also likely have to sign a replacement for Strand Larsen, and it remains to be seen if they will facilitate a switch to the Mgapies.
Speaking to Sports Mole, Lynch was optimistic that Isak would sign for Liverpool, saying: "Something has got to give now. For all the talk - I don't agree with this report at all - about Newcastle deciding not to sell, [it's clear that] it's still rumbling on.
"There hasn't been a definitive stance from Newcastle, but maybe we do see that in the next couple of days. They could say 'OK, even if he doesn't sign a contract, we're not forced to sell him and he can stay anyway'. That is in play as a possibility.
"I still lean towards he's going to join Liverpool because why has it not been ruled out yet? Why are we in this position? I could be proved wrong on that, but it's that's the feel you get from it, that it's still in play."
Failure to land Isak would leave Slot with only four senior forwards for three positions, and they would undoubtedly be heading into the rest of the campaign short up front.

When will Liverpool sign Isak from Newcastle?
If a deal for Strand Larsen is completed, Liverpool will still have to wait for Newcastle to give them the green light to make a move for Isak.
The Merseysiders had a bid of £110m rejected by the Toon in early August and have since not made another official offer.
Lynch reiterated that the Reds will only move for Isak if they are given encouragement, when he told Sports Mole: "Liverpool are still waiting for that green light to come and bid. If they get that, you'd be amazed if the deal doesn't get done from there.
"I'm sure they've both got similar ideas around what that fee would be, but it's just a waiting game now. I lean on the side of optimism because it hasn't been ruled out yet, and there's a possibility that now this game is out of the way that it gets done.
"There is that possibility that Newcastle's owners decide to dig their heels in, so you can't say anything concrete either way, but these are decisive days. Keep an eye on your social media and see what the updates are."
Even if Liverpool manage to sign the Swede, supporters may have to wait some time before he reaches full fitness due to the fact he has not had a pre-season with Newcastle.
