Manchester United Women have advanced to the UEFA Women’s Champions League second-round qualifier final after beating PSV Eindhoven 4-0 at the 3Arena on Wednesday.
United opened the scoring inside seven minutes as Lisa Naalsund pressed high to force PSV into making a mistake. She won the ball and played in Elisabeth Terland, who finished from close range.
Ella Toone nearly doubled the advantage after receiving a pass from Maya Le Tissier, but her effort sailed wide.
Man United continued to dominate and created another goalscoring chance in the 20th minute, with Terland combining with Julia Zigiotti Olme, whose effort hit the post.
The Red Devils finally scored their second of the game on 32 minutes, with Anna Sandberg sprinting down the left wing to find Ella Toone. The England international’s effort was saved, but Celin Bizet converted the rebound.
PSV came close to pulling one back after the restart when Chimera Ripa fired narrowly wide. Shortly after, Marc Skinner’s side extended their lead, as Toone’s exquisite pass found Terland and the no.10 placed the ball into the bottom corner.
Terland almost grabbed her hat-trick on 60 minutes, after she received a pass from Zigiotti Olme, but her effort was saved by goalkeeper Moon Pondes.
Three minutes after the hour mark, the Norwegian eventually found the back of the net for the third time. She received a pass from Toone before tucking the ball home to complete the scoring.
United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce was called into action late on, producing a remarkable stop to prevent Chimera Ripa from breaching her goal.
They will now face either Hammarby of Sweden or Metalist 1925 Kharkiv of Ukraine in the next qualification round on Saturday.
