The Dallas Cowboys are almost ready to go.
They trimmed their roster ahead of the NFL deadline, making some tough decisions in the process.
However, that doesn’t mean their roster is set in stone.
If anything, they’re only getting started.
“I think we will definitely be active. What does that mean? I don’t know how many new faces there will be here compared to how many guys we bring back. But we’re open for business, if you will say,” head coach Brian Schottenheimer said.
The day after final roster cuts is usually very active around the NFL, as teams look to make the most of the players who didn’t stick somewhere else.
The Cowboys still have two main issues to address.
They haven’t reached an agreement with cornerback DaRon Bland, who has hinted at wanting to get a new contract before Week 1.
More than that, they are in an extended standoff with All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Parsons, who requested a trade after failing to get a contract extension, has missed practice, citing a back injury.
The Cowboys revealed that his MRI came back clean, and they could choose to fine him for conduct detrimental to the team if they believe the injury is fake.
Parsons doesn’t seem willing to budge, and several reports claim that things are now personal between him and owner Jerry Jones.
The Cowboys aren’t a Super Bowl contender, and not having their best player on the field will do little to help their limited aspirations for this season.
So, as much as they should be on the lookout for more talent, there are more pressing issues to attend to.
