Strand Larsen replacement lined up? Wolves 'agree terms' with Genk forward

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly making an attempt to sign a player who could be viewed as a replacement for Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The Norway international proved his worth on Tuesday night as he came off the substitutes' bench to net a double in a 3-2 victory over West Ham United in the EFL Cup second round.

However, speculation persists that the 25-year-old could soon be on his way to Newcastle United, who are seemingly preparing a third bid of £60m.

If Wolves choose to cash in on the former Celta Vigo man, they would be left requiring two centre-forwards ahead of the September 1 deadline.

According to Belgian transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri, Wolves are interested in signing a relatively-unknown Nigerian talent.

Which Genk forward do Wolves want to sign?

Tolu Arokodare is allegedly a player who Wolves have already held negotiations with ahead of a potential formal approach.

Tavolieri suggests that terms over a five-year contract have been agreed with the four-cap Nigeria international.

Wolves are said to be ready to offer in the region of €20m (£17.24m) for Arokodare, who was outstanding for Genk last season.

A total of 23 goals and seven assists were contributed from 45 appearances, the player having 41 strikes and 12 assists from 113 outings during his time at the club.

There are just two years remaining on his contract, something which may influence Genk when it comes to making a final decision.

Arokodare made his debut for Nigeria earlier this year and netted his first international goal against Russia in June.

Any comparisons to Strand Larsen?

With Arokodare having spent over two-and-a-half years in Belgium, he is hardly a novice and appears to have potential to improve.

Furthermore, he is 6ft 4ins tall, a similar height to Strand Larsen, but he has just three goals from 13 outings in European competition, all of which came in qualifying ties.

There would be no expectations that he could instantaneously replicate Strand Larsen's impact at Wolves, but his physical stature would at least make him a threat in the air.

Wolves fans would anticipate a second forward arriving in the West Midlands to compete with Arokodare if Strand Larsen leaves for the North-East.
