The Patriots have claimed quarterback Tommy DeVito off waivers, according to a league source.
DeVito (6 feet 2 inches, 210 pounds) will join New England’s quarterback room, alongside Drake Maye and Josh Dobbs. The Patriots didn’t have a third-stringer after releasing undrafted rookie Ben Wooldridge.
The 27-year-old DeVito spent the last two seasons with the Giants. When he made his first NFL start in 2023, he was living in his childhood home with his parents. As a New Jersey native, DeVito became a fan favorite for his Italian roots and earned the nickname “Tommy Cutlets.”
During his tenure with the Giants, DeVito appeared in 12 games and started eight. He finished with a 3-5 record, completing 65.3 percent of his passes.
The Patriots also claimed cornerback Charles Woods off waivers. The 25-year-old spent last season with the Rams after going undrafted. He brings needed depth.
No team claimed any of the players the Patriots waived on Tuesday.
