Syracuse, N.Y. — Two former Syracuse football players have landed on the practice squads for NFL teams.
Quarterback Kyle McCord will remain with the Philadelphia Eagles after clearing waivers following his release earlier this week, according to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.
Wide receiver Jackson Meeks is staying with the Detroit Lions after flashing throughout the preseason, The Detroit News reported.
McCord was drafted by the Eagles in the sixth round in April and spent he preseason battling to be the third-string quarterback. After lackluster performances from McCord and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and a minor injury to backup quarterback Tanner McKee, Philadelphia acquired Sam Howell from the Minnesota Vikings.
Thompson-Robinson and McCord were both cut by the Super Bowl champions, but McCord will be back as the practice squad quarterback.
Meeks had two very good preseason performances for the Lions. After being targeted just once in the Hall of Fame game, Meeks combined for 171 yards and two touchdowns on 10 catches in his next two games.
After finishing Detroit’s final preseason game without a catch, Meeks was waived.
Earlier Wednesday, former Orange quarterback Tommy DeVito was claimed by the New England Patriots’ practice squad.
