Packers to Sign 3-Time Super Bowl Champion to Practice Squad, Per Report

After being cut by the Green Bay Packers' 53-man roster Tuesday, Mecole Hardman will sign with the team's practice squad, according to Ryan Wood of Packers Wire.

Hardman, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs, was released yesterday before the NFL's 53-man roster deadline. He signed a non-guaranteed contract with the team in March.

The move raised a few eyebrows given his championship pedigree and ability to stretch the field, but it was a numbers game for Green Bay as they opted for a few younger options at receiver.

Even so, Hardman isn't heading far. By keeping him on the practice squad, the Packers retain a veteran presence who has been through the grind of long seasons and big playoff moments. Hardman's speed is still a weapon that can flip the field, and in a group filled with youth and upside, that kind of experience has value.

He had 14 targets for the AFC champion Chiefs in 2023, as injuries largely derailed his last three seasons in the NFL.

Hardman will be eligible to be elevated to the team's game-day roster up to three times from its practice squad. NFL teams began signing players to their up-to-17-players practice squads noon Wednesday, right after waiver claims were announced.
