The latest Newcastle United transfer news and opinion has seen Alan Shearer give his verdict on the Alexander Isak transfer saga
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has given his latest verdict on the Alexander Isak transfer saga.
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer believes the Magpies need to bring an end to the Alexander Isak transfer saga before the clash with Leeds United this weekend.
Eddie Howe's side turned in an impressive display despite losing to Liverpool via a last gasp winner from substitute Rio Ngumoha. The build-up to the game had been dominated by speculation surrounding Isak and a potential move to the Reds.
Newcastle have already turned down a bid from the Premier League champions for their star striker, who has reiterated his desire to leave St. James' Park after a meeting with Jamie Reuben and a PIF delegation. Magpies' chariman Yasir Al-Rummayan was at the game against Liverpool and will also be looking for a resolution.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer does not believe the Toon can let the saga carry on until the deadline next Monday.
"It has to be resolved," the Toon legend said. "They can’t go through to next Monday again. They’ve got Leeds on Saturday. It’s just been going on and on.
"I know the chairman was in Newcastle last night so my guess would be that something has to be sorted in the next two or three days. It can’t drag on into the weekend again. One way or the other, it has to be resolved."

Co-host Gary Lineker believes that the saga will go down to the wire and expressed his concern that the situation could drag on to January unless Isak changes his stance.
"Unfortunately, you have a three-year contract in this situation," Shearer added. "That’s you or your agent's fault for signing such a long deal without any get-out clauses.
"I know football’s ruthless, I know how it works and I know when a club wants to get rid of you, as a player, they can. But that club is paying you for your services and you’ve got three years left.
"There’s a way of doing things. Look at how Eze has conducted himself at Crystal Palace, totally different I know, look at Guehi in a very difficult situation.
"He’s got one year left but Isak has three years left, of a six year deal that he or his agent signed so that’s where it’s very different."
