And then there were two.
The Patriots are releasing wide receiver Javon Baker to make room for waiver claim additions, a source confirmed to the Herald. That leaves just two players from the Patriots’ 2025 NFL Draft class on the 53-man roster in quarterback Drake Maye and offensive lineman Caedan Wallace.
Maye can still salvage the draft class is he winds up being a franchise quarterback. Wallace is currently last on the Patriots’ offensive line depth chart and was switched from tackle to guard this summer.
Baker, who made the initial 53-man roster on Tuesday, plans to re-sign to the Patriots’ practice squad if he clears waivers, a source said.
As for the rest of the Patriots’ 2024 draft class, wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk, cornerback Marcellas Dial and guard Layden Robinson all are on season-ending injured reserve. Quarterback Joe Milton was traded to the Cowboys, and tight end Jaheim Bell was waived late last week.
