Ruben Amorim has suffered a new Manchester United low in the Carabao Cup.
The Red Devils were comprehensively played off the park by Grimsby in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening. And the League Two side took a deserved lead in the first-half at Blundell Park.
There had been warning signs leading into the opener - and Grimsby had hit the bar from a corner. Charles Vernam found himself in space in the penalty area, and he didn't need a second invitation to blast the ball at Andre Onana's near post.
The ball squeezed past Onana and into the back of the United net - sparkling bedlam at Blundell Park.
However, United fans were furious, insisting it was the lowest Amorim had sunk.
"Amorim might not be the worst manager in PL history, but this Utd stint is arguably the worst job ever done at a PL club when you factor in club size and squad value," one fan said.
"Five at the back system and we can't even defend vs Grimsby," a second fumed. While a third shared: "Picking that clown in goal is on Amorim! He's f****** useless!"
And another added: "I can’t believe I once wanted Ruben Amorim..."
United's embarrassment would only continue after Vernam's opener - the Red Devils just couldn't get a foot on the ball as confidence flowed through the Mariners.
