Tottenham and Aston Villa hold talks to sign 30-year-old French International

Premier League clubs Tottenham and Aston Villa have initiated talks to sign Olympique Marseille midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

According to Fabrice Hawkins, Aston Villa and Tottenham are keen on adding more quality to their midfield before the end of the transfer window, and they have their eyes set on French international Adrien Rabiot. Both clubs have held talks with his entourage as they plot a raid on Olympique Marseille.

Rabiot made a name for himself at PSG before joining Juventus on a free transfer in 2019. While the initial years at the Turin-based club didn’t go according to plan for him, he eventually became one of their mainstays.

He was one of the stars of the French team that lost the 2022 World Cup final to Argentina. On the back of his exceptional performances, quite a few top clubs were keen on signing him in the summer of 2023. However, he ended up extending his stay at Juventus for another year.

Rabiot eventually ran down his deal and left them to join Marseille on a free transfer last summer. The 30-year-old ended up being one of their standout performers as he was involved in 31 matches and contributed towards 16 goals.

While he prefers playing as a central midfielder, he was deployed in a deeper role as well as an attacking role at times. The French international was a consistent performer for them, irrespective of the role he was assigned.

His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed, as multiple top clubs are now looking to acquire his services. With just a year left on his deal at the French club, AC Milan, Tottenham, and Aston Villa are all keen on signing the 30-year-old.

English clubs could battle for Rabiot’s signature

Just like Milan, Villa, and Tottenham have held talks with the player’s camp as they try to learn more about a potential transfer. Both English clubs are yet to reach out to Marseille, but they have made their interest known.

Having opened talks with his entourage, it will be interesting to see if either of them returns with an improved offer for the French midfielder. Unai Emery loves working with versatile players, and he would certainly be glad to have someone of Rabiot’s quality in his squad.

Meanwhile, Thomas Frank seems more quality in the centre of the park. He wants someone who can help him control the tempo and the former Juventus star can surely help their cause. Spurs could use Champions League football to lure him. His experience at the highest level could be helpful to those around.

With the World Cup coming up in 12 months, a move to a more prominent club could actually help the 30-year-old as well.
