Alejandro Garnacho is closing in on a move to Chelsea from Manchester United.

Garnacho, 21, looks set to leave Old Trafford for a fee between £35-£40m with Chelsea and United now getting closer to an agreement, according to The Telegraph.

United had slapped a £50m price tag on the Argentine winger, benchmarking him against the fee Arsenal paid Chelsea for Noni Madueke. However, the Blues were unwilling to meet such a high fee.

The report adds Chelsea are confident they will not have to wait for the proposed sales of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson to go through before attempting to move for Garnacho.

Enzo Maresca's side need to meet the terms of a UEFA settlement agreement stipulating they must have a “positive transfer balance” to register new players for the Champions League.

However, chiefs at the Blues believe the reports they must raise funds have been exaggerated.

Garnacho fell out of favour at the Red Devils last season and has faced questions over his attitude.

"I think with Garnacho, you can understand and you can see that he's talented, he's a really talented boy,” said Amorim earlier this summer.

"But sometimes things don't work out and you cannot explain specifically what it is.

"But I have the feeling – and I think it's clear - that Garnacho wants a different thing with a different leadership and I can understand that.
