Eberechi Eze took part in his first full training session with the Gunners as he eyes a potential debut against reigning champions Liverpool at Anfield this Sunday.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder, who joined from Crystal Palace in a £67.5 million deal last week, trained with his new teammates at London Colney on Monday, August 25. His arrival has ignited excitement among Arsenal supporters, eager to see the dynamic playmaker add his creativity to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Eze’s signing comes at a crucial moment for the North London club, who are battling an injury crisis in attack. Kai Havertz is sidelined with a knee injury that may require surgery, while Gabriel Jesus remains out following an operation earlier this year. Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard are also sidelined with injuries, though the captain could return in time for the trip to Anfield. With Viktor Gyokeres the only fully fit recognised striker, Eze’s versatility offers Arteta a timely boost.

Simon Collings of The Standard reported that Eze “looked sharp” in his first session and is already in contention for selection at Anfield. “He’s in contention to make his debut, though Arteta will assess his readiness after a few more sessions,” Collings noted.

Arteta himself praised Eze’s adaptability and personality when asked about the England international last week. “He’s a player who can play in multiple positions, out wide, as a No. 10, or even deeper if needed. His quality and personality will add something special to our attack,” the Spaniard said.

Eze, who registered 11 goals and six assists in the Premier League last season, showcased his flair in training, linking up impressively with new teammates in possession drills.

The £67.5m deal, which includes add-ons, reflects Arsenal’s determination to strengthen ahead of a decisive campaign. The club’s squad value has now surged to an estimated £1.37 billion, underlining their status as one of the Premier League’s financial powerhouses.

A debut against Liverpool would be a tough introduction for Eze, with Arsenal aiming to secure a rare win at Anfield, where they last tasted league victory in 2022. Beyond domestic challenges, the Gunners also face a daunting Champions League group stage beginning on September 16, where they are expected to be drawn against at least two European heavyweights, including the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG, or Barcelona.

For Eberechi Eze, however, the focus remains on realising a childhood dream. “I grew up supporting this club, and to be here now is a dream,” he said in his first interview as an Arsenal player.
