Updated: Browns Make More Moves; Sign Bailey Zappe, Add RB, CB; Sign Kaden Davis, Julian…

BEREA -- The wheels of the Cleveland Browns roster keep on spinning. After setting the initial 53-man roster on Tuesday, the Browns added a couple of players via waivers on Wednesday, but adding a running back and a cornerback .

The corresponding moves were releasing tight end Brenden Bates and cornerback Dom Jones.

In addition, the Browns signed nine players back to the practice squad, who were with the team in training camp. Those players were: tight end Sal Cannella, wide receiver Kaden Davis, safety Chris Edmonds, defensive tackle Ralph Holley, cornerback LaMareon James, defensive tackle Sam Kamara, running back Ahmani Marshall, defensive end Julian Okwara and running back Trayveon Williams.

The Browns added running back Raheim Sanders, who was released by the Chargers and cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse from the Jets.

Kevin Stefanski said the Browns liked both players in the draft process.

"I think all these guys, you have a little bit of a book from that pre-draft process, so their tape, you've met with them, whether at the combine or bringing them in, so you get a pretty good feel for the guys," Stefanski said after practice. "And then with you give Andrew and his crew credit because you have to pour over a lot of tape over the last three weeks to see who may become available, who would be a fit for us. So that's really what happened."

Stefanski was asked specifically about Sanders.

"Yeah, productive player, good size runs hard, but got to get him in here and see how he does," he said. "But the tape's good".

Sanders (6-0, 230) was a seventh-round pick with the Chargers. He played and Arkansas and South Carolina. He was the leading rusher for the Gamecocks this past season, but he had a big season as a sophomore for the Razorbacks, rushing for 1,443 yards and ten touchdowns.

Neither Sanders or Bernard-Converse were on the practice field on Wednesday.

Bernard-Converse (6-1, 205) was a sixth-round pick by the Jets in 2023. He spent the previous two seasons with the Jets, but contributed on special teams, playing a total of 211 snaps the past two seasons in a variety of roles. In two preseasons, Bernard has played almost exclusively on the outside.

Stefanski said he was glad to see Davis back.

"Without a doub," he said. "I think a lot of those practice squad players, are guys that have been here, have played in practice in games and are dependable and trustworthy and cadence certainly fits. The bill has played in games for us. Going back to last season can feature him on special teams as well. So it's definitely a guy that we're very happy he's back."

There was also a report that the Browns are signing a former third-round pick of the Jets, wide receiver Malachi Corley to the practice squad. Corley was a third-round pick by the Jets in the 2024 NFL Draft from Western Kentucky. He caught three passes for 16 yards as a rookie and had two rushes for 26 yards.

Extra Points

Outstanding Rookie: LB Carson Schwesinger was voted the recipient of the Maurice Bassett Award, which is awared to the most outstanding rookie in training camp. The vote is by members of the local members of the Professional Writers of America (PFWA).

"Well, he made another play on the ball today, so he's been very ball aware," Stefanski said. "The ball seems to find him, as you guys have seen, he does a nice job of running at defense, which was not easy for a young player. But in order to do that, in order to tell people where to get lined up, you have to know your stuff. And he really does know his part of this thing and how he factors in."
