Syracuse, N.Y. -- Max Mang had one job with the Syracuse football team last year.
He did it well.
So well that the often anonymous tight end was signed to the Indianapolis Colts practice squad on Wednesday.
Mang will likely take up Indianapolis’ international player spot, which allows teams to bring in an additional player beyond the 16 traditional practice squad positions.
Mang, who came to Syracuse from Germany in 2020, delivered a strong season for the Orange in the traditionally anonymous role of a blocking tight end last season.
Mang was the Orange’s fourth-highest rated run blocker according to Pro Football Focus. He was also the team’s third-best pass blocker.
He ranked fourth among ACC tight ends in pass blocking and seventh in run blocking last season, showing tremendous improvement in both categories under tight ends coach Michael Johnson.
Mang caught nine passes for 60 yards over the course of five seasons at Syracuse.
That rarely earned him notoriety during his time with the Orange but it appears like it will be enough to earn him a job in the NFL.
