FOXBOROUGH - The Patriots put together their first practice squad of the 2025 NFL season.
Tuesday’s cutdown day led to Wednesday’s NFL waiver wire process. After making 22 roster moves, the Patriots brought back 16 familiar faces to be a part of Mike Vrabel’s scout team.
NFL rules allow teams to have practice squads of 16 players, but teams with a player on an international exemption can have an extra spot. The Patriots have that exemption with defensive tackle David Olajiga, which allows them to put together a 17-player scout team.
The Patriots now have one open roster spot on the practice squad.
This year’s squad features fifth-round pick Bradyn Swinson. The edge rusher was one of the Patriots’ biggest surprise cuts on Tuesday.
“There’s always tough decisions that we have to make,” Vrabel said when asked about Swinson. “So, we have to do what’s in the best interest of the football team, and that’s why you practice. There’s a competition, and there’s games to evaluate and see how they respond. So, that practice squad list will be out at 4:00 and it’ll continue to, I think, change over the course of not only the next few days, but probably the season.”
