Manchester United’s embarrassing slide has continued with a stunning penalty shoot-out loss to Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup.

After finishing 15th in the Premier League last season, manager Ruben Amorim will be under renewed pressure following the defeat. United were behind 2-0 before levelling the score, only to lose the shootout 12-11 when big money recruit Bryan Mbeumo rattled the crossbar with his second penalty of the wild shootout.

That sparked a pitch invasion by delirious Grimsby supporters as United’s players reflected on one of the most shameful nights in their history.

The fans are invading the pitch because Grimsby Town have caused one of the biggest upsets in their history and inflicted a shameful exit on United.

“The penalty shoot-out was as mad as the game itself. Now THAT is a giant killing<‘ said former Premier League striker Chris Sutton on BBC.

“What an embarrassment for Manchester United. Where does Ruben Amorim go from here?

“The perception of him now… I don’t think he gets over this. A grim night in Grimsby for Ruben’s reds.”
