Everton drawn away at Wolves in Carabao Cup Third Round

Everton have been drawn against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the next round after beating Mansfield Town 2-0 earlier tonight. Wolves will have a second consecutive all-Premier League clash after eliminating West Ham United yesterday. Coincidentally, the Toffees travel to Molineux on Saturday as well.

Carabao Cup Round Three fixtures will take place across two weeks (beginning 15 and 22 September), with fixtures in the Champions League (week beginning 15 September) and Europa League (week beginning 22 September) also scheduled during this period. The additional dates required in the calendar for European competitions are as a result of an increased number of games for the season, the same as last year.

The nine teams competing in European competitions this season will be drawn separately to the rest of the third round teams tonight. Since UEFA competitions fixtures cannot be rescheduled, additional rules for the third round of the Carabao Cup had been introduced for the draw tonight. Clubs taking part in the Champions League or Europa League cannot be drawn against each other in the Carabao Cup third round.

The Blues have never won this competition in their 141-year history, but have been beaten finalists twice, against [Aston Villa](https://7500toholte.sbnation.com) in 1977 and to [Liverpool](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com/) in 1984. Their run in the tournament last season lasted until the Third Round when they lost at home to Southampton in a penalty shootout, with newest signing Tyler Dibling a second half substitute in that game.

Thirteen Premier League clubs not competing in European competitions entered the Cup in Round Two, and now the remaining nine sides participating in Europe enter the draw. The Carabao Cup remained regionalised in the early rounds with the draw split into a southern and northern section until Round Three when every match-up is fair game.
