Joe Burrow is coming off the best statistical season of his NFL career in 2024, despite the Cincinnati Bengals finishing 9-8 and missing the playoffs for the second straight year.
The former No. 1 pick led the entire league in passing yards (4,918) and touchdown passes (43), while throwing just nine interceptions and completing 70.6% of his passes. Burrow likely would have been more involved in MVP discussions alongside Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson had Cincinnati finished with a stronger record.
Now, entering the 2025 season, expectations are once again sky-high for Burrow to cement himself firmly in that MVP race.
On Wednesday, Fox Sports: NFL announced that Burrow had been voted the preseason MVP by NFL on Fox fans, receiving more votes than Allen, Jackson, and even Patrick Mahomes—all of whom have previously won the award.

Joe Burrow has quickly established himself as one of the league’s top quarterbacks since entering the NFL in 2020, progressing each season. He helped end the Bengals’ multi-decade playoff drought in 2021 and led them to the Super Bowl that same year.
Burrow also remains the only active AFC quarterback to defeat Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in a playoff matchup. The only other quarterbacks to accomplish the feat are Tom Brady (retired) and Jalen Hurts (NFC).

This offseason marked pretty much the first time Burrow has been fully healthy, and it has already drawn high praise from Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, who believes his quarterback has taken yet another leap.
“Joe got better, and I don’t even know how that’s possible. It’s just some of the throws he’s making right now—he’s as good as I’ve seen him,” Taylor said. “I think it’s really beneficial to get all these training camp reps that he’s maybe missed at times in the past. And he feels like he’s in a really good spot right now.”
