Travis Kelce’s dad said his son popped the question two weeks ago - after Taylor Swift was ‘getting maybe a little antsy’. Ed Kelce said the superstar singer was keen for his NFL ace son to put a ring on her finger, but Travis had ‘put her off’ until he could do ‘some grand thing’ to ‘make it a big special event’.

He finally got down on one knee in the garden after which the couple managed to keep their big news secret for a fortnight before announcing it on Instagram.

Ed, 73, told News 5 Cleveland: “Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago.

“He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy. But he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event.

“And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event…when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”

Ed said his son asked Taylor’s dad Scott for his blessing a month ago.

“I was talking to Scott Swift and Travis went to ask him for permission,” he said. "This was probably a month ago. Scott said, ‘Well come on, when are you going to get this done?’.’’

In the end Travis popped the question in the garden which he had filled with flowers.

Delighted Ed said: “He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘let’s go out and have a glass of wine’.

“I think she knew something was up because as they walked out there she could see suddenly there were a lot more flowers out there.

Taylor and Travis

“They got out there and that’s when he asked her. It was beautiful. They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. I think it's wonderful. These are two young people madly in love with each other and I think this is great.

“The family on both sides kind of assumed that this was going to happen because we've never seen our kids so happy.”

Brit body language expert Joanne Pearson, of Private Investigations UK, said the couple’s engagement photos captured all the hallmarks of a partnership built to last.

She said: “What we’re seeing in this moment is intimacy and security. Travis is kneeling, which symbolically places him in a position of vulnerability and devotion. His upward gaze is fixed entirely on Taylor, showing admiration, respect, and a deep emotional focus on her.

“Taylor has her hands placed gently around Travis’s face - a protective and nurturing gesture that signals care as well as love. She’s leaning fully into him, both physically and emotionally, which demonstrates trust and prioritisation of the relationship above all else in that moment. This isn’t a staged or distant engagement announcement. Their body language shows vulnerability, equality, and genuine emotion.

“Those are the markers of a partnership that isn’t just built on love, but on trust and emotional reciprocity. In body language terms, that’s the recipe for a marriage with real longevity.”
