Jay Cutler, the former Vanderbilt quarterback and 12-year NFL veteran, was sentenced to four days in jail following a DUI arrest that occurred last year.
According to WKRN.com, Cutler was arrested in October 2024 in Franklin, Tenn. after police responded to a minor traffic collision. The report indicated Cutler rear-ended another vehicle and was slurring his words and had blood shot eyes. Police said Cutler said he’d had “a little bit” of alcohol.
Cutler was later charged with DUI and possession of a handgun while under the influence. The gun charges were dismissed and he will spend 4 days in jail with a year of supervised probation and a $350 fine for the DUI charges.
Cutler spent four years at Vanderbilt from 2002-2005, throwing for 8,697 yards with 59 touchdowns to 36 interceptions. His 2005 season (3,073 yards, 21 touchdowns/nine interceptions) won him the SEC Offensive Player of the Year.
Cutler’s 2005 season would also raise his draft stock, as he was taken No.11 overall by the Denver Broncos the next year. He’d spend three seasons in Denver, starting 37 games and throwing for 9,024 yards, 54 touchdowns and 37 interceptions.
Following Cutler’s 2008 Pro Bowl season, he was traded to the Chicago Bears in exchange for Kyle Orton, two first-round picks and a third-round pick. The Bears hoped Cutler could become their franchise quarterback for years to come.
Cutler was the Bears’ starting quarterback for eight seasons, going 51-51 during his tenure. He accumulated 23,443 passing yards, 154 touchdowns and 109 interceptions.
Once Cutler’s time ended in Chicago after 2016, he signed with the Miami Dolphins in what was an uneventful 2017 season.
He would retire from the NFL after his stint in Miami.
