After several days of negotations Barcelona and Oriol Romeu are finalizing a contract termination for the veteran midfielder, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Romeu has been training alone since the start of preseason as he awaits a resolution on his future, but the two sides took several days to finally resolve their differences in the negotiations and have finally reached a deal that satisfies both parties, and an official announcement is expected for as early as Thursday.
Oriol’s termination is crucial to help Barça complete the remaining registrations of Gerard Martín and Roony Bardghji. Wojciech Szczesny’s registration is imminent thanks to Iñaki Peña’s loan to Elche, which was made official on Wednesday, and Romeu’s departure will help take care of the rest.
Romeu, a La Masia product, returned to Barça in the summer of 2023 but failed to make an impact despite playing 37 games in the 2023-24 season. He was loaned to Girona last year and is expected to re-join them once he becomes a free agent.
