Russell Westbrook’s legacy as a relentless competitor and former NBA MVP continues to endure, even as his free agency status remains unresolved. After a spirited season with the Denver Nuggets—where he averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game and finished seventh in Sixth Man of the Year voting—he declined his player option and entered unrestricted free agency this summer.
Now preparing for his 18th NBA season, Westbrook continues to weigh his options, with the league set to resume in October.
Amid widespread speculation about his basketball career, Westbrook made a significant personal move this offseason that shifted some focus away from his uncertain professional future.

Russell Westbrook and Nina Westbrook Renew Vows, Victor Oladipo Reacts
Westbrook and his wife, Nina, reportedly renewed their wedding vows in an intimate ceremony aboard a flower-adorned boat in Portofino, Italy (h/t Essence). The ceremony marked ten years of marriage for the couple, who first tied the knot in 2015.
Nina, a former UCLA basketball player, has been a consistent presence in Westbrook’s life through his NBA journey, from his early days with the Oklahoma City Thunder to his most recent stint with the Nuggets. While Westbrook has not commented publicly on the event, he subtly acknowledged the occasion by sharing a now-viral video of himself shooting hoops aboard a yacht while on vacation (h/t ClutchPoints).
Among those to acknowledge Westbrook’s personal news was former teammate Victor Oladipo, who commented on Instagram: “I love them.”
Former NBA Star Victor Oladipo reacts to Russell and Nina Westbrook news.
The two shared the court during Westbrook’s MVP season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, a period Oladipo has often credited with shaping his own career.
Reflecting on their relationship, Oladipo said during an appearance on The VC Show in 2022, “We played together in OKC when he won MVP, he prepared me for the following season when I left. We have mutual respect and love for one another.”
The bond between Westbrook and Oladipo remains strong, as evidenced by their public appearance together at a Los Angeles Sparks game in July 2024.

Russell Westbrook’s NBA Future Remains Up in the Air
Despite his steady production off the bench in Denver, Westbrook’s NBA future remains unclear. The Sacramento Kings have been the only team publicly linked to the veteran guard, but no formal deal has materialized.
Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer has suggested that Westbrook may not even have a team next season. Whether or not he chooses to continue in the NBA or close the curtain, the 6-foot-4 guard has made his mark as one of the greatest players of his generation.
