Two additional Wildcats cut in the NFL, seven added to practice squads

Yesterday, CatsPause.com shared the developments of the NFL roster cut deadline in which 14 Wildcats made the initial 53-man rosters across the league. Key word being 'initial.' Teams continued making adjustments to their respective rosters as the waiver process unfolded and practice squad spots were filled.

Unfortunately, Browns tight end Brenden Bates and Cowboys cornerback Zion Childress were Wednesday cuts to make room for waiver additions, which brings the number of former UK players on active NFL rosters to 12. It is expected that both Bates and Childress will join the practice squads of the respective teams that waived them Thursday.

Those two players, as well as linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson (Packers), defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna (Seahawks), safety Mike Edwards (Chiefs), safety Keidron Smith (Broncos) and interior offensive lineman Eli Cox (Texans), were added to practice squads.

These units are fluid and can change on a daily basis. Each week during the regular season, teams have the opportunity to elevate up to two practice squad players, but players may not be elevated more than three separate weeks during the season without being elevated to the 53-man roster.

Players have freedom of choice beyond waivers. For example, Broncos quarterback Sam Ehlinger is reportedly electing to return to Denver's practice squad rather than joining an active roster elsewhere.
