Brazil confirm Joelinton replacement after Newcastle star's injury

Brazil have confirmed Newcastle United star Joelinton will miss their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Indeed, Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti had included Joelinton in his squad for their upcoming games against Chile and Bolivia next month.

The Selecao have already qualified for next summer’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, so the Newcastle United star could have used the games to try and make an impact on Ancelotti and force his way into the squad for the showpiece event.

Still, Joelinton suffered an injury for Newcastle against Liverpool. The 29-year-old left the pitch in tears at St James’ Park, with what looked like a groin issue.

While Newcastle are hopeful Joelinton has avoided a serious injury, Brazil have now replaced him in their squad.

How many games Joelinton has missed through injury for Newcastle United

It currently seems likely that Joelinton will miss Newcastle’s game against Leeds on Saturday, along with Sandro Tonali.

Hopefully, neither player misses much more than that.

Sadly for Joelinton, he has started to pick up more injuries of late. Last season, the £40million star missed nine games. During the 2023/24 campaign, he was forced out of 28 fixtures.

Joelinton’s injury history

Luckily for Eddie Howe, Jacob Ramsey impressed on his Newcastle debut. The former Aston Villa star now looks primed to feature at Elland Road, potentially against the man he replaced on Tyneside in the form of Sean Longstaff.

Academy graduate Longstaff left Newcastle for Leeds earlier this summer and could feature against his boyhood club for the first time on Saturday.
