Alisson Becker shares which out of Man City or Everton he has found to be the toughest away day

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has explained which out of Manchester City or Everton he has found to be the toughest away day.

Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium has enjoyed fortress status in the past, with two unbeaten home runs spanning 35 or more games over the past 15 years.

However, Everton’s former stadium Goodison Park was known to be an especially intimidating place, especially during the Merseyside derby.

Alisson has spoken to Sky Sports about which he found the hardest, with Manchester United’s Old Trafford and Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium also in the picture.

Alisson Becker says Manchester City are a difficult away day but Goodison Park deemed harder

Alisson was the latest guest to take part in the Sticker Book Challenge, in which players have to make a choice from a shortlist of four and explain why.

When it came to the toughest away day, Alisson said about the Etihad: “I think because of the quality of the team, City is always a tough place to play.

“But it’s tough to play against them, even when you play at home. When you play away, it’s just yourself and the away supporters.”

Alisson didn’t even mention Old Trafford or the Emirates, but when it came to his final selection, he went for Goodison Park.

“For me, talking about the environment, the atmosphere, I would say Goodison Park,” he said. “It was a really tough place to go.

“We had a few successes over there, but always we had to fight a lot, playing our best way.

“And I think we said goodbye to this place last season, so I’ll go for this one. The derby is always a special game.”

When the Etihad Stadium was Manchester City’s fortress

It wasn’t that long ago that City enjoyed a superb unbeaten home run that put them among the Premier League’s best of all time.

City’s 4-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in November 2024 put an end to an unbeaten home run that spanned 35 games.

And in the early 2010s, City enjoyed an unbeaten home run that spanned two years – between December 2010 and December 2012.

The Citizens have done it before – and they can do it again.
