Wolves have until the end of the transfer window to bring in some new faces to bolster their squad
Wolves turned to Vitor Pereira as their manager during last season to replace Gary O’Neil. The Portuguese boss has since made a positive impression at Molineux and has become a popular figure among their fan base. He managed to keep the Midlands outfit in the Premier League in the last campaign with ease in the end.
The Midlands outfit are hoping to compete higher up the table this time around if they can. They have the chance to sign some more players before the end of the transfer window. They also have the opportunity to sell some individuals as well before the deadline on Monday 1st September at 7pm, having already seen key players like Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri depart.
Wolves should eye Jorgen Strand Larsen replacement
Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen has been heavily linked with a move to league rivals Newcastle United. If he left, they would need to find an adequate replacement and replace his goals. With that in mind, Borussia Dortmund’s Maximilian Beier should be on their radar.
Beier, 22, is wanted by Brentford at the moment, as per a report by Sky Sports. His current club forked out £28million to sign him last summer to add more firepower up top. However, he is facing an uncertain future with the Bundesliga giants already after just 12 months.
The Germany international, who has four caps under his belt, joined Hoffenheim back in 2018 as a youngster. He rose up through their ranks and was a regular at various different youth levels. The Brandenburg-born man was loaned out to Hannover 96 in 2021 to get some experience under his belt and was a hit in Bundesliga.2, finding the net on 15 occasions in 68 games.
Upon his return to the PreZero Arena, he broke into the first-team. He fired 16 goals in 35 matches to emerge on the radar of Dortmund. They made their move this time last year and he went on to play 46 games in the last campaign, scoring 10 times.
What now for Wolves?
Wolves saw Cunha leave for Manchester United at the end of last term. Losing Strand Larsen now would be another dagger through their heart. Therefore, getting Beier through the door would need to be a priority over the coming days before the market shuts.
He would be ideal for Pereira’s side and would suit the way they play. The forward is quick and likes to get in-behind defenders. His game time at Dortmund may well dry up so leaving wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world for him.
Wolves would need to act fast to get him though with Brentford lurking. The Bees sold Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United and with Yoane Wissa also seemingly on his way out, they will be desperate for attacking reinforcement. They may well be willing to splash big money on Beier as they look to back new manager Keith Andrews, who was their surprise choice to step into Thomas Frank’s shoes.
Beier still has a few years left to run down on his contract at Signal-Iduna Park but faces a lot of competition for places. He is mainly a bench player there and will want regular minutes at his age. Dortmund finished in a disappointing 4th place in the table last term.
