Manchester United lost on penalties to League Two side Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second round on Wednesday.
The Red Devils were anticipated to bag an easy victory against The Mariners at Blundell Park yesterday.
However, the hosts stunned them with two goals during the opening 30 minutes.
A late comeback through Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire ensured that the game went to penalties.
Grimsby won 12-11 in the shootout with Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo missing from the spot for United.
Andre Onana was poor between the sticks and should have done better for both goals conceded.
The Cameroon international also made just one save during the extended penalty shoot-out.
However, we were more disappointed with Amad Diallo’s performance in the number 10 role.
The 23-year-old got the nod ahead of Mbeumo after having played at right wing-back last weekend.
He was largely ineffective and recklessly gave the ball away in the lead-up to Grimsby’s opener.
Amad lost possession on 11 occasions and won just three out of nine duels contested (67% lost).
The £39 million-rated star did not complete any of his crosses attempted on the day (0/2).
Amad has now produced back-to-back poor showings from the starting line-up for the Red Devils.
After yesterday’s disasterclass, manager Ruben Amorim surely has to drop him to the bench alongside Onana for Saturday’s Premier League kick-off against Burnley at Old Trafford.
We could see a similar front three from the Fulham draw. Cunha and Mbeumo could line up alongside Mason Mount in the front three. Benjamin Sesko may feature off the bench.
The Slovenian had a harsh reality check yesterday. He won only 16 percent of duels contested with seven passes. He lost possession nine times and never looked like finding the back of the net.
