Reading have 'agreed a deal' to sign Portsmouth midfielder Matt Ritchie, according to reports.

The 35-year-old has not played in League One for over a decade, spending time in the Premier League with the likes of Bournemouth and Newcastle United before making an emotional homecoming to Portsmouth last summer.

Despite being in the twilight of his career, the wide man made 41 appearances for Pompey last season as they survived in their first season back in the Championship for more than 10 years.

Deemed surplus to requirements at Fratton Park, manager John Mousinho has made him available for transfer this summer and the Royals have negotiated long and hard throughout the summer.

Reportedly holding out for a chance to remain in the Championship, Mark McAdam of Sky Sports now believes the deal is agreed and an announcement should be confirmed within 24 hours.

Wrexham forward Jack Marriott was confirmed on Tuesday, with Noel Hunt keen on three new additions by the end of the window on September 1 and at least one new face before Saturday's visit from Port Vale.

Reading are still looking for their first win of the League One season but have progressed to round three of the Carabao Cup.
