The Eagles are closing in on a statement attacking signing to replace Eberechi Eze

Crystal Palace are on the verge of confirming the statement signing of Villarreal winger Yeremy Pino for a reported figure of £26m plus add-ons. It marks the club’s biggest signing of the window so far after the signing of back-up goalkeeper Walter Benitez on a free transfer from PSV Eindhoven and the addition of left-back Borna Sosa from Ajax for a reported £3m.

Both of those signings are expected to provide depth for Dean Henderson and Tyrick Mitchell respectively in a busy campaign which is likely to see the club play a lot of matches, particularly if the Eagles are successful in their second leg Conference League play-off clash with Fredrikstad FK. However, Pino is expected to go straight into the first team and in the long-run is expected to provide Oliver Glasner’s side with a fresh injection of flair and creativity following the departure of club legend and FA Cup final hero Eberechi Eze to Arsenal for £68m.

Crystal Palace plan to ‘quadruple’ Yeremy Pino’s wages

Crystal Palace have won the race to land 15-time Spanish international Yeremy Pino despite Villarreal’s determination to keep the footballer at the Estadi de la Ceràmica. El Periódico Mediterráneo claims it was ‘practically impossible’ for the Spaniard to say no to Crystal Palace’s offer after the capital club agreed to offer him a huge increase in his current earnings. The Spain international had a contract running until 2027 which saw him earn a reported €1.2m per year at Villarreal.

It’s reported that the Yellow Submarine offered him a new deal to try and convince him to extend his stay, but he rejected it in favour of a superior offer from Crystal Palace which is expected to see him earn €4m net annually at Selhurst Park instead. Cadenaser even goes as far as to suggest the package is quadruple the amount he’s currently earning in Spain.

What can Crystal Palace expect from Yeremy Pino?

Yeremy Pino is already a 15-time Spanish international, a Nations League winner and a Europa League winner. He’s described by London World’s Jamie Kemble as an ‘absolute bargain’ and a talent with super technical ability. He’s worked under various top managers at Villarreal and has remained popular with each of them, showing an ability to slot seamlessly into various different tactical systems. He puts in work defensively and has an eye for goal with 22 strikes in 170 matches for Villarreal as well as 23 assists across all competitions.

Last term was his most productive in terms of overall goal contributions in the league with 11, although there’s no doubt in terms of finishing that there’s still another level that he’s capable of getting to.

Pino is yet to finalise his move to Palace but if all goes to plan then it’s likely he could be involved in the matchday squad for the away visit to Aston Villa on Sunday 31 August. The Eagles have drawn both games so far and are keen to get off the mark with a win as they look to have a quicker start to the league campaign than they did last time out.
