West Ham’s nightmare start to the season just keeps on rolling.
After being battered 3-0 by newly-promoted Sunderland and humiliated 5-1 at home to Chelsea, the Hammers found fresh misery in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night. Wolves dumped them out with a 3-2 win, courtesy of a Jørgen Strand Larsen brace, making it three defeats from three in all competitions.
That’s 11 goals conceded, just three scored, and a team looking completely out of its depth under Graham Potter.
With the transfer window closing fast, desperation is setting in — and Potter has turned to one of the Premier League’s most criticised midfielders in a bid to stop the rot.

According to Fabrizio Romano, West Ham have submitted a loan offer with an option to buy for Nottingham Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangaré.
The bid, however, was promptly knocked back, with Forest only considering a permanent sale for a significant fee — or a loan with a 100% guaranteed obligation to buy.
At this stage, it’s unclear whether the Hammers will return with a revised offer.
Sangaré arrived at Forest in 2023 with a glowing reputation from PSV Eindhoven, billed as a powerhouse who would dominate Premier League midfields. Instead? A flop. Two seasons, just 36 appearances, no goals, and plenty of criticism.
Former Forest man Steve Hodge even labelled him the club’s “biggest let down” of the 2023/24 campaign.
From what we expected from when we got him we thought he’d dominate midfield and be a bullish player who would knock people out of the way and control games,” Hodge said. “That’s just not happened.”
And now? He’s exactly the sort of panic signing West Ham are eyeing up. Because of course he is.
