Leeds United old boy makes big pledge after sealing Elland Road transfer exit

Sam Greenwood is looking forward to embarking on a new challenge in his career at Pogon Szczecin. The forward departed Leeds United yesterday, joining the Polish Ekstraklasa outfit on a permanent transfer.

Reports suggest Szczecin have paid £3.4m for Greenwood's services. The 23-year-old has signed a three-year contract, with the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

Greenwood told Szczecin's club website: "I'm delighted. I found a beautiful stadium and a beautiful city here. My goal is to be a great addition to the team, to help them, and of course, to win something with them.

"I know the Ekstraklasa is a tough league where anyone can beat anyone. I'll fight for the team and give my all for the fans."

It was no big shock to see Greenwood leave Elland Road. The Sunderland-born attacker made 35 appearances for the Premier League club after joining them as a teenager from Arsenal but his last first team outing came two years ago. Greenwood spent the past two seasons on loan in the Championship at Middlesbrough and Preston North End.

A United statement confirming Greenwood's exit read: "Everyone at Leeds United would like to thank Sam for his efforts whilst representing the club both on and off the pitch, and we wish him every success for the next step in his career."

It will be interesting to see if any other players leave the Whites in the final days of the transfer window. Goalkeeper Illan Meslier, defender Isaac Schmidt and midfielder Darko Gyabi could be on their way out after falling out-of-favour under Daniel Farke.
