Newcastle United expected to return with ‘bigger bid’ – NT manager backs Magpies fit

Newcastle United are determined to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers Jørgen Strand Larsen this summer.

The Magpies have already seen Wolves reject their two bids of £50m and £55m for the striker.

On Wednesday, TV2 reported the Wolves player is expecting to eventually join Newcastle. They also stated his agent, Tore Pedersen, is in England and is working behind the scenes to secure his client this move.

Although Wolves have rejected two offers, Nettavisen in Norway now report Newcastle’s pursuit of the 25-year-old is ‘by no means over’.

It’s claimed Eddie Howe’s side are expected to return with a ‘bigger bid’ to take him away from Wolves, without mentioning a figure.

The Norway international is an important player for Vítor Pereira’s side and if they were to sell him, there won’t be sufficient time to sign an adequate replacement.

For these two reasons, the report claims Newcastle will have offer up to £60m for the frontman. In other words, the Tyneside club have to raise their offer by £5m.

Nettavisen contacted Norway manager Ståle Solbakken to get his views on Jørgen Strand Larsen’s potential move from Wolves to Newcastle.

“They [Newcastle] mostly play with one striker, have a lot of crosses and wings with good pace. So, he’ll probably fit well. But he also fits well at Wolverhampton. They play a type of football that benefits him,” he said.

It’ll be interesting to see how Wolves will react if and when Newcastle return with a new offer.
