Ruben Amorim's tenure at Manchester United reached a new low after his side were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town, as the Portuguese boss was left stunned by the performance

Ruben Amorim has hinted crunch talks must be had surrounding Manchester United's current crisis and his own future after the club's embarrassing Carabao Cup exit. The Red Devils became the biggest scalp of the competition so far after they were eliminated on penalties by League Two outfit Grimsby Town.
The hosts took a shock 2-0 lead in the first half as the rain poured down, and they were cruelly denied a third that should have stood. Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire eventually ensured the match would head to penalties.
After a lengthy shoot-out that saw all 11 players take at least a spot-kick each, Mbeumo's second effort of the night hit the crossbar as United's misery was confirmed.

The defeat spelled the first time the Premier League side had been knocked out of the tournament in the second round for more than a decade. It was under Louis van Gaal that United were dismantled 4-0 by MK Dons as Amorim has once again written himself in the history books for the wrong reasons.
It's been a dire start to the season for United, who've yet to record a win. Amorim twice admitted after the full-time whistle that he intends to discuss his future with the club and the current state of play after their next Premier League match against Burnley on Saturday ahead of the international break.
Speaking to MUTV after Wednesday's loss, Amorim said: "In the end, the penalties don’t matter. After the game, the penalties if you win or you lose, the feeling [about the 90 minutes] should be the same."
He first revealed: "Let’s focus on the next game and then we have time to think about things. We have a lot of debts with our fans so let’s focus on the game." Amorim then doubled down, adding: "We have a job to do, a job to prepare and then we’ll stop and think things through."

Amorim lamented the regression he's seen in his players since their opening day 1-0 loss to Arsenal at Old Trafford where he was buoyed by their performance despite the narrow defeat to a rival. "I would like to say very smart things and very important things," Amorim added.
"I have nothing to say. Nothing to say. That is the biggest problem also. To see the same mistakes and nothing to say in this moment. I’m really sorry for our fans. It’s too much sometimes.

"When everything is so important in our club and you try to do everything. You have come from pre-season, even Arsenal you lose the game but you are there, you are improving and you see the performance, but then reach this kind of game, when everything is so important in our club."
The 40-year-old wasn't afraid take aim at his players as he continued: "And when you start a game like this… I think my players are talking really loud about what they want, so I’m really sorry to our fans, I have nothing to say anymore."
United have one point on the board so far, having drawn 1-1 at Fulham on Sunday. Another setback against Scott Parker's newly promoted Burnley this weekend would leave the club in turmoil with a fortnight to make decisions behind the scenes before a short trip to Manchester City awaits.
