Manchester United's season is in tatters despite having hardly begun after a humiliating Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby followed a defeat to Arsenal and draw at Fulham.

Manager Ruben Amorim will be feeling the pressure following a disastrous 12-11 loss to the League Two side on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the second round of the competition on Wednesday night. With August not yet over, United's only realistic prospect of lifting silverware this season is now winning the FA Cup.

The midfield continues to be a contentious area for Amorim's team, with the club yet to bring in any new players in that department during this summer's transfer window. The squad remains overly dependent on Bruno Fernandes, and doubts persist over Manuel Ugarte's capabilities. Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo struggles to secure game time at his childhood club.

Interest from the Saudi Pro League in Casemiro and Fernandes also fluctuates. However, they have yet to find replacements for departed player Christian Eriksen, and to a lesser extent, Toby Collyer. Here's the latest transfer news from Old Trafford.

Midfielder 'being considered'

United are reportedly contemplating a move for Conor Gallagher after deciding against pursuing Brighton's Carlos Baleba.

TBR Football suggests they're keeping an eye on the England international's situation at Atletico Madrid and could make a move for the 25-year-old midfielder.

The Manchester Evening News reports that this isn't the first time United have been linked with Gallagher, with connections dating back to his Chelsea days.

The idea is that bringing in such a player would allow Fernandes more freedom and alleviate some of the pressure on both him and Mason Mount.

Sancho offered way out

Jadon Sancho is reportedly being considered by Tottenham Hotspur as a potential replacement for their recently departed captain, Son Heung-Min.

Spurs' attempts to secure Savinho from Manchester City have so far been unsuccessful, but it's believed the unfolding situation between Sancho, 25, and Tottenham is worth keeping an eye on.

United secured Sancho's services for £73million from Borussia Dortmund, but he hasn't lived up to anything near that huge valuation, and could be available for as little as £15m.

Alejandro Garnacho, 21, looks set to leave Old Trafford for a fee between £35-£40m with Chelsea and United now getting closer to an agreement, according to The Telegraph.

United had slapped a £50m price tag on the Argentine winger, benchmarking him against the fee Arsenal paid Chelsea for Noni Madueke. However, the Blues were unwilling to meet such a high price.

Garnacho fell out of favour at the Red Devils last season and has faced questions over his attitude.
