Ruben Amorim hinted that talks about his Manchester United future will take place soon
Ruben Amorim has suggested that serious discussions need to be held regarding Manchester United's current predicament and his own future following the club's humiliating exit from the Carabao Cup.
The Red Devils suffered a shocking defeat in a penalty shootout against League Two side Grimsby Town, marking the biggest upset of the competition so far.
The hosts stunned everyone by taking a 2-0 lead in the first half amidst heavy rain, and were unjustly denied a third goal that should have been allowed. Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire eventually took the match to penalties.
Following an extended penalty shoot-out where all 11 players had at least one shot each, Mbeumo's second attempt of the evening hit the crossbar, sealing United's fate.
This loss marks the first time in over a decade that the Premier League team has been eliminated from the tournament in the second round. The last such humiliation came under Louis van Gaal when United were thrashed 4-0 by MK Dons, putting Amorim once again on the wrong side of history.
United's start to the season has been dismal, with no victories recorded yet. After the final whistle, Amorim twice conceded that he plans to discuss his future with the club and assess the current situation after their next Premier League game against Burnley on Saturday, before the international break.

Following Wednesday's defeat, Amorim spoke to MUTV, stating: "In the end, the penalties don't matter. After the game, the penalties if you win or you lose, the feeling [about the 90 minutes] should be the same.
He initially stated: "Let's focus on the next game and then we have time to think about things. We have a lot of debts with our fans so let's focus on the game." Amorim then doubled down, adding: "We have a job to do, a job to prepare and then we'll stop and think things through."
Amorim expressed disappointment over the decline he's observed in his players since their opening day 1-0 loss to Arsenal at Old Trafford, where he was encouraged by their performance despite the narrow defeat. "I would like to say very smart things and very important things," Amorim continued.
"I have nothing to say. Nothing to say. That is the biggest problem also. To see the same mistakes and nothing to say in this moment. I'm really sorry for our fans. It's too much sometimes.

"When everything is so important in our club and you try to do everything. You have come from pre-season, even Arsenal you lose the game but you are there, you are improving and you see the performance, but then reach this kind of game, when everything is so important in our club."
The 40-year-old didn't shy away from criticising his players. Amorim said (via the Mirror): "And when you start a game like this... I think my players are talking really loud about what they want, so I'm really sorry to our fans, I have nothing to say anymore."
United have managed to secure just one point so far, following a 1-1 draw at Fulham on Sunday. A further stumble against Scott Parker's newly promoted Burnley this weekend could plunge the club into chaos, with only two weeks left to make crucial decisions off the pitch before they face a daunting visit to Manchester City.
