The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed offensive lineman Max Scharping to their active roster, the team announced. Scharping was released as part of the team’s final cuts.
Scharping can play all five positions along the offensive line, giving him versatility the Steelers like up front. Now joining the roster, the Steelers have ten offensive linemen.
Scharping joined the Steelers in October of 2024 after injuries racking up along the offensive line. The big appeal for his depth status is that he can play anywhere for the Steelers, making him a valuable piece.
When they signed Scharping, he was on the Washington Commanders’ practice squad. Scharping spent much of the season as the ninth offensive linemen, and the first team inactive.
A second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Northern Illinois, Scharping has started 33 games in the NFL, many coming with the Houston Texans over his first three seasons in the NFL
Scharping stayed with the Texans from 2019 to 2021, but a new regime came in, headed by Nick Caserio, a former Patriots executive. After disappointing in his opportunities, he was released after training camp in 2022. The Cincinnati Bengals would scoop him up off waivers, and Scharping spent the next two years with the Bengals.
Cincinnati did not extend him beyond 2023, and the Philadelphia Eagles signed Scharping in June, but he failed to make the final roster.
