Benjamin Sesko endured a horror full debut at Manchester United last night - and it got Newcastle United supporters talking.
In a parallel universe, Benjamin Sesko is enjoying the fruits of Eddie Howe’s meticulous training and looks well on his way to achieving cult-hero status as Newcastle United’s number nine.
Alexander Isak is already wearing Liverpool red and Toon fans are far more relaxed about their current striker situation. At 6ft 5in, Sesko certainly has the physical attributes to match Wyn Davies, Les Ferdinand, Alan Shearer et al.
But in reality, the Slovenian is asking his agent whether the 14-day cooling-off period has expired. Sesko is now three games without a goal in Manchester United colours and started for the first time last night as Ruben Amorim’s men crashed out of the Carabao Cup to Grimsby Town.
Benjamin Sesko penalty debate
As a £70million striker against League Two opposition, the 22-year-old went 10th in the penalty shoot-out, allowing the likes of Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt to step forward first.
That surely qualifies as a “red flag” from any £70million striker?
Ultimately, the Red Devils crashed out after Bryan Mbeumo - another former Toon target - rattled the crossbar from 12 yards. Newcastle fans were left mocking Man United as another season of doom appears to be in the pipeline.
Newcastle United fans on the wind-up
Here is a compilation of Newcastle fans sticking the knife into Sesko and everyone associated with Old Trafford. Is it too late for him to change his mind and don the famous black-and-white stripes?
Benjamin Sesko might actually be the biggest bullet Newcastle United has dodged in a long long time btw#NUFC

I kind of want Hojlund at #NUFC now just so Howe can turn him into a monster whilst Sesko flops.

Ruben Amorim outburst
Speaking post-match, Man United boss Amorim ripped into his team’s performance and dropped a subtle hint over his future. He told Sky Sports: "I am shocked because we are in the moment when we make a lot of changes. We try to fight a lot of things but then when we have these moments, we need to show up.
"If we don't show up, you can feel that something has to change and you are not going to change 22 players again. With all due respect, when you play against a fourth division team, it's not the goalkeeper, it's everything.
“It's the environment, it's the way we face the competition. We know that in the moment, people will pay attention to everything, it's massive - every detail. We showed that performance today. My players spoke for me, really loud. It doesn't matter if we recover (from 2-0 down) or not. It's the signs the team made during the game. The beginning of the game.
"I know that the best team won, the only team that was on the pitch. The best players lose, because one team can win against any group of players. I think the team and the players spoke really loud today. That's it. We lost. The best team won."
