Grimsby beat Manchester United on penalties, but make no mistake about it, this wasn’t a snatch and grab result.

The Mariners were 2-0 up against the Red Devils for a large portion of the game, before a late rally took the game to spot kicks.

United ultimately lost on penalties after Bryan Mbeumo missed the decisive penalty to cost the Manchester club the tie.

As you can imagine, the wider footballing world had a big old laugh at United, and one team in particular were very happy to see the Red Devils lose.

How Fulham reacted to Bryan Mbeumo penalty miss

Fulham were also in action on Wednesday as they beat Bristol City 2-0 at Craven Cottage.

The Whites secured safe passage through to the next round on Wednesday, and they made it back into the dressing room to watch the end of the United game after a lengthy penalty shootout.

Local journalist, Jack Kelly, was on hand to cover the Fulham game, and he noted an interesting reaction from the dressing room when Bryan Mbeumo missed his penalty.

The Fulham squad apparently let out a big cheer after seeing United knocked out of the cup, and it’s easy to understand why.

Fulham’s recent record vs Manchester United

Fulham were happy to see United knocked out of the cup as the Red Devils have proven to be something of a bogey team for the Whites as of late.

The two sides drew at the weekend, but, last season, the Red Devils took six points off Fulham, despite finishing 15th in the league.

United have a tendency to score late winners against the Cottagers, as the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez have all done so in recent years.

Losses 6

Fulham will have been happy to see their bogey team eliminated from this competition as they aim to win the first piece of major silverware in the club’s history.

Meanwhile, for Manchester United, it’s back to the drawing board and it already looks like the FA Cup is their last chance to win a trophy this year.
