OXFORD United face more injury woe after defenders Jack Currie and Brodie Spencer were forced off during the 6-0 Carabao Cup defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Spencer attempted to run off an ankle problem early in the second half, but was ultimately replaced by Louie Sibley nine minutes into the second period, while Currie went off in stoppage time after all five substitutions had already been made.

The U’s are already without Ciaron Brown, Stephan Negru, Josh Johnson and Ole Romeny, while Ben Davies is highly unlikely to feature against Coventry City on Saturday as he builds up fitness levels.

United head coach Gary Rowett said: “Unfortunately I think the luck continues with injuries because it looks as though probably two more players are going to be struggling for the weekend.

“Brodie had to come off and Jack Currie had to come off with quite a nasty cut to his leg, so we’ll have to see how that looks.

“That’s not helping at the moment, but it seems to be going that way, doesn’t it?”

On the injury to Spencer, Rowett added: “I think he just felt his ankle. I don’t know if it was a challenge.

“Straight away it looked as though he had to come off, so I would imagine that someone like Brodie, who is a pretty tough cookie, if he’s coming off, hopefully it’s just a bang and really sore, but I would imagine he’d probably play with that. We’ll have to have a little look.”
