Jadon Sancho has offered fans a glimpse into life as an exile at Manchester United as the end of the summer transfer window approaches. Sancho is still waiting for his future to be decided ahead of Monday’s deadline, having seen a succession of deals collapse.

The 25-year-old winger has been in limbo this summer, having been placed in the ‘bomb squad’ by Ruben Amorim. The United manager told Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia that they had no future at the club before pre-season began.

The group of outcasts have been forced to train by themselves, away from the first team group at Carrington, arriving after everyone else has left. And while Rashford has left for Barcelona, the rest of the outcasts remain at the club.

Sancho has appeared close to leaving on a few occasions, with Fenerbahce, Juventus and Besiktas all showing an interest after Chelsea decided not to sign him permanently following his loan spell with them. Time is now running out, but Sancho doesn’t appear concerned about his future, judging by his social media output.

On Wednesday he posted a selfie of himself, Malacia, Antony and Lisandro Martinez relaxing in the dressing room. Martinez is recovering from a long-term injury and appears to be one of the few United players who is allowed to interact with the bomb squad group.

Interestingly, Garnacho is the only member of the group not pictured. The Argentina international is the subject of transfer interest from Chelsea, but, like the others, is yet to agree terms over an exit.

Sancho has contributed just 12 goals and six assists in 83 matches for United since joining from Borussia Dortmund for £73million in 2021. He did better on loan with Chelsea, with five goals and 10 assists in 41 games last season, but their decision to pay £5m rather than sign him for £25m showed how far he has fallen.

Sancho has turned down opportunities to join Fenerbahce and Besiktas because he does not want to move to Turkey at this stage of his career. He had come close to joining Juventus earlier in the summer, while there has been interest from Roma and Inter Milan, but nothing is close at this stage.

Having spent over £200m on Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, United need to offload some of their unwanted players before they can sign more stars in the transfer window. They want to sign Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, but face the prospect of missing out on him to Galatasaray because they don’t currently have the funds available.

Amorim had also wanted to sign a No.6 midfielder in this transfer window, but that prospect has not emerged, in part due to the inability to shift the members of his bomb squad.
