Aston Villa targeted Chelsea duo Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku

Aston Villa look set to miss out on both Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku in the final days of the summer transfer window.
The club had identified the Chelsea forwards - both deemed surplus to requirements - as potential additions to bolster Unai Emery’s attack.
However, Villa are now expected to look elsewhere, with Jackson closing in on a loan move to Bayern Munich and Nkunku nearing a permanent switch to AC Milan.
Bayern are working to reach a final agreement with Chelsea for Jackson’s loan, although the Blues are still hoping to secure a permanent transfer for the Senegal international.
Villa, meanwhile, are not in a position to meet Chelsea’s asking price for a permanent deal, and the cost of a loan is also currently seen as prohibitive.
Nkunku, another target for Villa, is reportedly edging closer to a permanent move to AC Milan.
According to L'Équipe, the deal could be worth up to £38 million - well beyond what Villa are able to pay.
The Midlands club has been restricted by Premier League and UEFA financial regulations throughout the summer.
So far, Villa have made two first-team signings: Marco Bizot and Evann Guessand. Their most significant sale has been Jacob Ramsey, who joined Newcastle United for £39 million.
